How to Care for Your Battery
Your battery allows you to use your machine when it's not plugged into a power source. In order to keep your battery functioning at top capacity for as long as possible, you must care for it properly.
Change the power settings on your computer to conserve the battery by selecting a power-saving setting. If you use a high-performance setting, the battery will be drained quickly because it is powering several functions at the highest capacity. However, if you choose power-saving settings, you battery will conserve itself and only power the minimum that the computer needs to function, which prolongs battery life.
Use the machine on a flat, hard surface so that the fans within the computer circulate air properly and keep the battery at an optimal temperature. Overheating the battery shortens the lifespan.
Keep your machine and battery away from extreme temperatures. Extreme temperatures make the battery lose charge, and may also stop it from working altogether.
Allow your battery to work by unplugging the computer from a power source periodically. If you keep the computer plugged in all of the time, the battery does not have a chance to discharge, and this shortens its life.
Let the battery totally discharge before recharging. However, if you're not going to use the computer for an extended period of time, store it with the battery halfway charged so that it does not lose capacity. |
